Continuous Flow (One-Piece Flow)
What is it?
Continuous Flow (or One-Piece Flow) is the production method in which each product unit moves individually from one processing stage to the next, without stops or accumulation of work-in-progress (WIP) inventory. It is the opposite of batch production, typical of mass production, and is one of the pillars of the Lean philosophy. Unlike Single-Piece Flow, which applies more generally to order-by-order management, One-Piece Flow specifically concerns the physical organization of the production process, often through U-shaped cells.
